Scotland pushed briefly in the second half Alisson made two decent saves from a free kick and Scott McTominay’s header but it was the kind of consolation pushing that changes nothing. Brazil were never in any danger.

Here is where Scotland’s situation becomes genuinely complicated.

Even a Scotland win over Morocco may not be enough if the goal difference gap cannot be closed. They need goals, a victory, and a combination of other results to fall their way simultaneously. The margin for error is essentially zero.

Brazil’s Comfortable Evening

For Brazil this was the kind of night every tournament contender wants efficient, controlled, clean sheet, and the best player rested for significant periods of the second half.

Vinicius Jr was the standout performer with two goals, though he will be frustrated not to have added more. He had a hat-trick chance six minutes into the second half and spurned it badly, then wasted two more opportunities late on. On a different night he walks away with four.

Guimarães was again the engine that made everything work his assists for both the second and third goals showcasing the kind of composure and technical quality that has made him one of the most coveted midfielders in world football this summer. As we wrote in our transfer window piece, several clubs are watching his performances very closely indeed.

Danilo was the only Brazil player who gave any cause for concern booked for a poor challenge and fortunate not to see red. Ancelotti will have noted that.

Neymar — The Cameo That Stopped the Stadium

He played minutes, had one shot, and barely broke into a jog.

But when Neymar came off the bench the noise inside Hard Rock Stadium was unlike anything that had come before it a wall of sound that said everything about what this player still means to Brazilian football regardless of what the statistics say about his current form.

He looked off the pace. That much was obvious. The sharpness that defined him at his peak is not there right now and nobody watching honestly could pretend otherwise.

But Ancelotti got what he wanted minutes in the legs, a positive reception, and the group stage wrapped up without any injury concerns. Whether Neymar features meaningfully in the knockout rounds remains the most fascinating subplot of Brazil’s World Cup 2026 campaign.

Elsewhere — The Group Stage Drama Continues

While Brazil were making easy work of Scotland in Miami, the rest of Wednesday’s group stage action was delivering drama of its own.

Morocco 4-2 Haiti — The Atlas Lions put on a stunning second-half display after being pegged back twice, finishing the group stage on seven points and confirming second place in Group C behind Brazil. Their performances this tournament from the Bouaddi masterclass against Brazil to this commanding finish mark them out as genuine dark horses for the knockout rounds.

South Africa 1-0 South Korea — Bafana Bafana secured their place in the round of 32 with a hard-fought victory that ended Son Heung-min’s World Cup. Brazil head into the Last 32 as one of the tournament’s most feared sides. Vinicius is in form, Guimarães is playing the football of his life, and Ancelotti is rotating smartly to keep his squad fresh.
